Toblerone
Toblerone, for the uninitiated, is the iconic Swiss chocolate bar produced by the US food company Mondelēz. It was born in 1908 in Bern and is made from Swiss milk, honey and almond nougat. Its main aesthetic feature is the iconic pyramid shape of the chocolate and the relative triangular shape of the packaging, which recalls the peak of the Matterhorn mountain. A peak that must now be removed.

Package
Chocolate packaging is to undergo a change due to an action taken by the US company Mondelez. Mondelez has moved part of its chocolate production from Switzerland to Slovakia and this has consequences that directly impact the iconic Matterhorn mountain peak depicted on the packaging.

Laws
Switzerland passed strict legislation in 2017 to protect domestic production, banning the use of national symbols to promote milk-based products that are not made exclusively in Switzerland. This law therefore prevents the company Mondelez, which has moved part of its chocolate production out of Switzerland, from using the peak of Mount Matterhorn on its packaging.

Solution
The symbol of Mount Matterhorn has been on the packaging since 1970, and the iconic shape of the chocolate and the resulting packaging will always remind us of a mountain: it would therefore be unbelievable to no longer see the peak of a mountain on the Toblerone packaging! For this reason, Mondelez has announced that the current image will be replaced by a more generic peak and a signature of founder Theodor Tobler.
